Kremlin Warns of Regime Change Calls in Iran
His comments came as a reaction to recent declarations made by Israeli leaders concerning Iran’s political leadership.
Peskov emphasized that “no country or group of countries should discuss a change of power in other countries.”
Speaking to a Russian journalist in an interview aired by a national broadcaster, he stressed that if such conversations persist, “then the world will go to hell.”
The comments were made in response to earlier remarks by Ohad Tal, a member of Israel’s Knesset from the Religious Zionism party and a participant in the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
Although Tal stated that regime change in Iran is “not the official goals” of Israel’s military efforts, he added: "If you really want to get rid of the nuclear program (in Iran), you have to take down the regime. Otherwise, you’re just postponing their ability to go back to develop the program."
In a previous statement, Peskov had already cautioned that any move to target Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei could “open Pandora's box” and result in a perilous escalation across the region.
He reiterated that discourse about transforming Iran’s government is “unacceptable for everyone.”
