Armed attack leaves five civilians dead in Ecuador’s Pacific coast

(MENAFN) Five people were killed early Tuesday in an armed assault at a three-story house in Ecuador’s Pacific coast province of Manabi, a region plagued by rising violence, according to a local outlet.
Police responded to the incident following an emergency call. Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers opened fire on the victims at the scene.

Authorities reported that four of the victims had prior criminal records involving illegal weapons possession, robbery, murder, and drug trafficking. The fifth victim was a 16-year-old boy.

Ecuador's National Police linked the deadly attack to an ongoing turf war between rival criminal gangs competing for control over drug trafficking, money laundering, and extortion operations in the region.
