Trump Names Vance as Likely Successor
During a press conference held in Washington, DC on Tuesday, a reporter asked Trump whether he intended to support the former senator from Ohio as the “heir apparent to MAGA.”
Trump responded, “I think most likely, in all fairness. He’s the vice president,” although he acknowledged that it is still premature to confirm a definitive nominee.
The president added, “He’s doing a great job and he would be probably favorite at this point,” suggesting that Vance’s performance as vice president has positioned him as the top prospect within the party.
Trump also hinted at a potential political alliance between Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio—who had previously mounted a failed bid for the presidency in 2016—indicating the possibility of their names appearing together on a future Republican ticket.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trump appeared on CNBC’s ‘Squawk Box’ where he was asked about the prospect of seeking reelection.
He replied, “No, probably not,” but quickly followed with, “I’d like to run. I have the best poll numbers I’ve ever had.”
Although Trump has consistently dismissed the idea of pursuing a third term, he has, at times, teased the notion, leaving some observers uncertain about his ultimate intentions.
