Trump Threatens to Deploy Troops to Baltimore
In a post on Truth Social, Trump lashed out at Moore, writing: "Wes Moore's record on Crime is a very bad one, unless he fudges his figures on crime like many of the other 'Blue States' are doing."
He continued: "But if Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum (Newsom) did in L.A., I will send in the 'troops,' which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the Crime."
Trump’s remarks were a direct response to Moore’s earlier criticism of the National Guard presence in the nation’s capital. Moore had extended an invitation for the president to visit Maryland and engage in a public safety discussion, which Trump dismissed as being offered in a “nasty and provocative tone.”
Moore, in an interview with media, pushed back, stating: "The reason that I asked the president to come and join us is because he seems to enjoy living in this blissful ignorance, these tropes and these 1980s scare tactics."
He added: "While the President is spending his time from the Oval Office making jabs and attacks at us, there are people actually on the ground doing the work who know what supports would actually work to continue to bring down crime. But it's falling on deaf ears of the president of the United States."
The feud comes as Baltimore reports a 22% drop in homicides so far in 2025, according to the Baltimore Police Department.
Still, Trump indicated the city could be next in line for a federal crackdown. Speaking at the White House Friday, he named Chicago as a potential target following recent operations in D.C., and later added New York to that list, along with Baltimore, Los Angeles, and Oakland — all governed by Democrats.
On August 11, during a White House press briefing, Trump announced the deployment of the National Guard to support law enforcement efforts in the capital, citing what he called a need to restore “law and order” in multiple cities.
