Pope Leo XIV Urges Global Peace

(MENAFN) Pope Leo XIV appealed for tranquility in the Holy Land, Ukraine, and other conflict-stricken regions during Sunday prayers at Saint Peter's Square in the Vatican.

"God does not want war. God wants peace! And God supports those who commit to breaking the spiral of hatred and walking in the path of dialogue," the pontiff declared, according to Vatican News.

After the mass, Leo encouraged believers to "continue their prayers for the people of the Holy Land, Ukraine, and every part of the world plagued by war."

The pope also spoke directly to global leaders, emphasizing that "apparent victories achieved through weapons, sowing death and destruction, are in fact defeats, and they never bring peace or security."

Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza reached its 700th day on Friday, with more than 64,000 Palestinians reported killed.

The military campaign has left the enclave devastated and facing starvation.

In November, the International Criminal Court released arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Additionally, Israel is under trial at the International Court of Justice for accusations of genocide related to its war on the territory.
