China Tells Japan to Cease Support for "Taiwan Independence" Forces
According to reports, the Japanese government on Tuesday awarded an order to the so-called former "Taiwan's Representative in Japan," Hsieh Chang-ting.
In response, spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized at a press briefing that China firmly opposes Japan's decision to confer honors on individuals promoting "Taiwan independence."
He described it as yet another misstep by Japan regarding Taiwan-related matters.
Guo further stressed that the Taiwan issue lies at the heart of China's core interests and directly impacts the political foundation of China-Japan relations as well as Japan's basic credibility.
He noted that it represents a red line that must never be crossed.
Highlighting the historical context, Guo mentioned that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, alongside the 80th anniversary of Taiwan’s restoration to China.
He urged Japan to reflect on its responsibilities for past war crimes, adhere to the guiding principles outlined in the four political documents between the two nations, demonstrate commitment to the one-China principle through concrete actions, exercise caution on the Taiwan issue, and refrain from sending any misleading signals to separatist forces advocating "Taiwan independence."
