Fire Ravages Southwestern Japan

(MENAFN) A significant fire erupted in a district in southwestern Japan, destroying over 170 structures, local media reported Wednesday.

The inferno ignited late Tuesday and rapidly advanced through a densely populated residential zone in the city of Oita, according to a news agency.

Residents had to evacuate their homes as officials relocated more than 170 individuals, and one person remains unaccounted for.

Firefighters are still working to control the ongoing blaze.
