Taiwan Arrests Seven Over Espionage Allegations Linked to China
The island's High Court approved prosecutors’ request to detain six retired and active Taiwanese military members and a Chinese man accused of leaking classified military secrets to China, according to media.
Prosecutors allege that the Chinese suspect, Ding Xiaohu, “recruited former Taiwanese officers to gather classified military information.”
Mainland China has not issued any immediate response to the espionage claims from Taipei.
The report noted that $356,444 was transferred to Taiwan to finance the group’s activities.
Authorities believe the spy network began forming in 2018, with active intelligence-gathering operations starting in 2023 and continuing until they were uncovered last year.
