Israeli airstrikes kill three in Southern Lebanon despite truce

(MENAFN) Israeli air attacks killed three people in southern Lebanon on Sunday after strikes hit a motorcycle and two separate vehicles, marking another breach of the ceasefire agreement reached last year, according to official statements and local accounts.

Authorities reported that one of the strikes targeted a motorcycle in the town of Yater, located in the Bint Jbeil district, killing one individual and injuring another. In a separate incident, an Israeli drone strike hit a car in the town of Jouaiya in the Tyre area, resulting in one fatality.

Another drone attack struck a vehicle on a road between the towns of Safad El-Battikh and Baraachit in the Nabatieh governorate, leaving one person dead, according to reports.

The Israeli military said two of those killed were members of Hezbollah and stated they were targeted in separate operations in Yater and Bint Jbeil. The army also said it launched an additional strike around midday aimed at another Hezbollah member, noting that the outcome of that operation was “being examined.”

Hezbollah did not immediately respond to the Israeli claims.

The latest attacks come amid reports that Lebanon has received alerts from regional and international actors warning of possible Israeli preparations for a wider military operation.

A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon was reached last year after more than a year of cross-border hostilities linked to the war in Gaza. That period of fighting resulted in more than 4,000 deaths and around 17,000 injuries.

Under the terms of the truce, Israeli forces were expected to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by January. However, they only partially pulled back and continue to maintain a presence at five military outposts along the border.
