US federal authorities arrest four people over plot to stage NYE attack

(MENAFN) US federal authorities announced on Monday the arrest of four individuals in connection with an alleged plan to carry out a New Year’s Eve attack in Southern California, according to reports.
Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that the Justice Department, in coordination with the FBI, intervened to stop what she described as “a massive and horrific terror plot” in the Central District of California, encompassing Los Angeles and Orange County.

In a post on X, Bondi claimed that the Turtle Island Liberation Front (TILF) was “preparing to conduct a series of bombings against multiple targets in California beginning on New Year’s Eve,” adding that the group allegedly intended to target Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and vehicles.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau “disrupted a credible, imminent terrorist threat” and apprehended four suspects in the Los Angeles region. He further alleged that the individuals were “planning coordinated IED bombing attacks on New Year's Eve, targeting five separate locations across Los Angeles.” A fifth person was also arrested in New Orleans in connection with a separate, alleged plot.

TILF, which maintains a small presence on social media, describes itself as a political organization advocating for the “Liberation of occupied Turtle Island and liberation of all colonized peoples across the world.” Activists associated with the group have previously campaigned against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detentions and deportations, as well as other anti-colonial causes. Authorities have not released evidence supporting the allegations or specified the intended targets. The group did not immediately comment on the arrests.

The arrests occurred amid a wider crackdown on left-leaning organizations under the current administration, according to reports.
