Four Killed in Gaza as Storm Triggers Building Collapse

(MENAFN) Four Palestinians were killed late Monday after storm-driven winds and rain caused buildings already weakened by Israeli airstrikes to collapse, the Palestinian civil defense said Tuesday.

Officials reported that the structures gave way under heavy rainfall and fierce gusts linked to a low-pressure system that swept into the region Monday evening.

The fatalities included an elderly man, a child, and two women. Several others were injured in separate incidents as cracked homes and unstable buildings crumbled overnight in Gaza City.

Eyewitnesses said the storm has compounded the misery of hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians living in tents across the enclave. Strong winds and relentless rain flooded coastal areas, tearing apart and uprooting thousands of makeshift shelters.

In central Gaza, residents of the Nuseirat refugee camp rushed into mosques and partially damaged buildings for cover after their tents collapsed or were shredded by the storm, witnesses told media.

The humanitarian crisis comes against the backdrop of Israel’s ongoing military campaign. The Israeli army has killed more than 71,000 people — most of them women and children — and injured over 171,000 since October 2023, leaving much of Gaza in ruins.

Despite a ceasefire announced on Oct. 10, 2025, Israeli forces have continued operations, killing 424 Palestinians and wounding 1,189 others, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
