Five Dead in Fire Erupted at Furniture Store in India
The blaze ignited late Saturday evening in the Nampally district of Hyderabad, the capital city of Telangana state.
Multiple victims became trapped in the structure's basement level as flames spread, prompting emergency crews and firefighting units to launch urgent rescue efforts, officials reported.
"Five bodies, including two boys and an elderly woman, were recovered from the cellar of the building on Sunday," a senior police official told media.
Vikram Singh Mann, director general of the Telangana Fire Disaster Response and Emergency Services, announced that the shop owner would face criminal negligence charges related to the deadly incident.
Investigators continue examining what sparked the fire.
