Erdogan Condemns White House Correspondents’ Dinner Shooting
In a message shared on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Erdogan stated, “It is reassuring for us that no one was injured, especially US President Donald Trump and his esteemed wife Melania Trump,” highlighting relief that key figures, including Trump and his wife Melania Trump, were unharmed.
He further emphasized that political disputes in democratic systems should be resolved through intellectual and ideological means, noting that “there is no place for any form of violence.” He underlined that acts of aggression have no legitimacy in democratic societies.
Erdogan also conveyed his sympathy and good wishes, saying, “I extend my get-well wishes to President Trump, his wife, the US administration, and the American people,” extending support to those affected and to the broader United States public.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening at the Washington Hilton Hotel during the annual dinner event. A suspect, described by US media as a 31-year-old man, has been taken into custody as investigations continue into the motives behind the attack. According to officials, a Secret Service officer was struck by gunfire but was shielded by a bulletproof vest and is currently recovering.
