Israeli Soldiers Injured in Drone Incident in Lebanon

(MENAFN) Two soldiers from the Israel Defense Forces were injured after an explosive drone struck during military operations in southern Lebanon, according to statements cited by reports.

The military said the incident took place on Monday during operational activity in the area, resulting in one soldier being seriously injured and another sustaining lighter injuries. Both were evacuated to hospital, and their families were informed, according to the statement.

The incident comes amid ongoing cross-border tensions involving southern Lebanon. On the same day, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for two drone attacks targeting Israeli forces and military equipment. The group said the strikes were carried out in response to what it described as Israeli violations of a recently agreed ceasefire, including reported attacks on villages in the south and the demolition of homes.

Hezbollah has framed its actions as retaliation within the context of continuing hostilities despite ceasefire arrangements introduced earlier this month and later extended.

According to Lebanese official figures cited in reports, the wider conflict has resulted in more than 2,500 deaths and over 1.6 million displaced people since early March.

A temporary ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel took effect on April 17 and was later extended for an additional three weeks, though both sides have continued to report incidents along the border area.
